Do flag football shorts need to be pocketless?

Many leagues ask for them. The NFL FLAG rule book (2025 regular season, Rule 2.7) recommends pocketless shorts and says pockets or belt loops must be taped over, and games aren’t held up for taping. Rules vary, so check your own league’s rules.

Can my child just tape the pockets?
